I bet by the time the new Miata reaches the U.S. it'll be closer to 2400lbs than the Japanese spec 2200lb car. My reasoning is that the Alfa 4C gained about 200lbs for the US car.

That with the lower power engine makes me to believe the new car and the old car will be a wash performance wise.

I want to know more about the engine itself. As far as I know its the same 2.0 used in some of their other cars. I just hope they tuned it to be more fitting of a sports car. i.e being rev happy, good sounding, etc. I own a NA so I can certainly get past the lack of power, but performing the same as it does in a CUV is no bueno.

Plus that the Jap Spec car weights 2200lb only with the lighter and smaller engine.

I'm sure Mazda will take some measures to compensate for both but still the car will weight at least 100lb more, which just like the 4C will make the Jap/Euro spec considerably better.

I don't think Mazda has the money or resources to tune the Miata engine differently than the others. If they did I'd expect at least a bit more added power.

According to one of the video reviews, the extra weight will only be caused by the standard 2.0 over the 1.5.
